On May 18th, 2009 at 10 a.m. approximately 300 guests, donors, Hubbard family members, faculty and students attended Monday’s opening ceremonies. Guest speakers included Dr. Hubbard’s long-time friend, Rev. Dr. Lloyd John Ogilvie, Chaplain of the U.S. Senate from 1995 to 2003, as well as former student, Dr. John Ortberg, Senior Pastor of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. Pasadena Mayor Bill Boogard said of the new library, “It’s a gift to Pasadena, a gift to the U.S.A., and a gift to the world.” After the ceremonies, guests toured the new facility which was designed by renowned “green” architects William McDonough and Partners.
