This Writing Center workshop, presented in collaboration with the David Allan Hubbard Library staff, will direct your path and send you in the way you should go on your search for all things theological. Learn to navigate the labyrinth of the library basements and to conquer online databases, and practice discerning the value of the materials you discover for your own projects.

Interlibrary Loan services down for maintenance

system upgradeThe library will be performing a major upgrade and maintenance of its Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) server this Thursday, July 31 at 5:00 p.m.

During this time no new Interlibrary Loan orders can be made as the system will not process incoming requests.

system upgradeThe library (Pasadena campus) will close early at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, due to a routine, local-area power outage scheduled by the City of Pasadena Water & Power Department for Monday evening.

Orthodox Icon Exhibit Soon to be on Display in the DAHL

theotokos redoThe Brehm Center and Galerie Gabrie, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Joseph of the Antiochian Diocese of Los Angeles and the West, present, “Most Holy Theotokos, Save Us!”.

This exhibition, on display in the Library lobby, is focused on icons reflecting the life of the Most Holy Theotokos with accompanying lectures including “Mary in the Bible and Worship” on March 7th and “The Theology of Mary and the Church” on March 28th. Join us for the unique opportunity to consider the importance of her place in Orthodox Christian life and worship.

The opening reception will be at the David Allan Hubbard Library on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 5:30 p.m., followed by the lecture, “Mary in the Bible and Worship”  at 6:00 p.m. in Payton 101 by guest lecturer His Eminence Archbishop Joseph of the Antiochian Orthodox Church. On Thursday, March 28, 2013, a subsequent lecture, “The Theology of Mary and the Church” will be hosted in Payton 1010 at 6:00PM by guest lecturer Very Reverend Father Josiah Trenham, Ph.D.

The exhibition will be on display from March 4th to May 10th.

The Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University just announced that, in partnership with William Eerdmans Publishing Company, it will be producing A Jonathan Edwards Encyclopedia. The volume, to be published in print and online, will consist of some 450 entries, ranging in length, according to the following categories:Long: up to 2,000 words; Medium: up to 1,000 words; Short: up to 500 words; Bio: up to 250 words.

They are invited registered users of the Edwards Center’s website, subscribers to our online journal, Jonathan Edwards Studies, and other interested and qualified members of the reading public to participate in this community non-profit project.

Please Join Us for the “Praying with Icons” Reception, March 22nd

Please join us for an opening reception for the exhibit “Praying with Icons,” installed in the David Allan Hubbard Library, on Thursday, March 22, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The exhibition—which will run from March 5 until April 28—is designed to lead viewers through both past and present use of icons in divine liturgy as well as personal devotion within the Orthodox tradition. Themes include Christ and the Mother of God, feast days, and the saints.

The reception will include liturgical chanting selections, as well as a lecture at 5:00 p.m.:  “I Venerate the Icon, I Worship the Prototype,” delivered by Rev. Fr. Patrick O’Grady, pastor of St. Peter the Apostle Antiochan Orthodox Church in Pomona, California.

All are welcome to this free event presented by the Brehm Center for Worship, Theology, and the Arts, with the blessing of Archbishop Joseph (Al-Zehlaoui) of the Antiochian Diocese of Los Angeles and the West.
